The school

St. Patrick’s College, Awka, Anambra State, teaching JSS 1 to SS 3 in several class arms.

Its office runs the term every school runs: admissions, the register, assessment, exams, report cards and fees.

The problem

Each of those jobs lived in a different place, and none knew about the others.

  • Results were added up by hand, so report cards reached parents long after the last paper.
  • Fees sat in a ledger. The bursar matched each bank slip to a child.
  • The register was on paper. Parents learned of absences from the term’s report.

The school did not want three new systems. It wanted one record that the principal, the bursar, the class teacher and the parent could each read.
