Add-on
A part a school pays for on top of the core platform. In SchooWare, CBT, face check-in and the offline add-ons are added this way.
AI assistant
A helper that answers questions in plain words, typed or spoken. The SchooWare AI Assistant AI-powered shows only what your role may see, and takes no actions. More about the AI Assistant
Audit trail
A record of who did what, when and from where, never rewritten. More about roles and the audit trail
B
Biometric device
A terminal that recognises a face or fingerprint. At the gate it records arrivals and departures, even without internet.
Broadsheet
One sheet of a class arm’s results: every student, every subject. A master sheet does the same across all arms of a class.
C
CBT
Computer-based test: an exam sat on a computer or phone, marked on submit. More about CBT
Class arm
One stream of a class, such as JSS 1A. Each arm has its own class teacher, register and timetable.
Continuous assessment
Tests, assignments and classwork scored during term, often called CA. They add to the exam score for the term’s result.
E
ERP
Enterprise resource planning: one system for an organisation’s main work. A school ERP holds students, staff, results, fees and attendance, so each fact is entered once.
E-wallet
Money held inside software rather than a bank. In SchooWare each student has one that parents top up online.

Grading scale
The table that turns a score into a grade, such as 75 and above for an A. Each school sets its own.
L
Level
In tertiary institutions, the year of study, such as Year 1 or Year 2. Students move up a level each session.
N
NFC card
A card read by tapping it on a reader or phone. In SchooWare one card works at the bus door, library desk and ID check.
O
On-site server
A computer at the school that runs the software on its own network. It keeps exams, attendance and sales going offline. More about the on-site server
P
Payment gateway
The service that takes a parent’s card or bank payment online and passes it to the school. SchooWare fees and wallet top-ups go through it.
Permission
One thing a person may see or do, such as approving a refund. Permissions go to roles, school-wide or per section.
Pocket Moni
A child’s tuck shop spending money, kept in SchooWare. The school sets a daily, weekly or monthly limit, and parents see what was bought. More about Pocket Moni
R
Report card
The end-of-term document with scores, grades and comments. In SchooWare it is a PDF parents download on the web or app.
Role
A job in the school, such as bursar or exam officer. A role carries permissions, and one person can hold several.
S
Section
A part of a school or institution with its own classes, subjects and terms or semesters, such as nursery, secondary or tertiary. Access can be given to one section only.
Semester
One of two halves of a tertiary session. Each has its own courses and exams, as a term does in a school.
Study path
The subject group a senior student follows, such as Science or Commercial. Once placed on a path, their subjects follow.
Sync
Short for synchronise: copying records between the school’s server and the cloud so both match.
T
Token
The unit AI use is measured in, roughly part of a word. Each question or draft uses some of the school’s tokens.
