A school day, stop by stop.

From the gate at 7:30 to a parent’s phone after dinner: seven stops in one school’s day, and what SchooWare does at each.

7:30am

The gate

The gate opens, and every child is counted on the way in. AI-powered

Pupils and staff check in with their face, on a biometric device at the gate or on the SchooWare app. Before a check-in counts, the app makes sure it is the right face, in the right place, at the right time.

  • Face match AI-powered — against the face the school enrolled, and every enrolled face is approved by an admin.
  • Location and time — check-ins come from inside the school’s boundary, within the school’s check-in window.
  • Biometric devices — face and fingerprint devices at the gate send their clock-ins to attendance, once an admin approves each device.

7:52am

A late arrival

Emeka is late, and his mother already knows.

Emeka checks in at the gate at 7:52am. JSS 1C started at 7:45am, so his mother gets an alert in the SchooWare app and a push notification on her phone.

  • Late, left early or absent — parents are alerted in the app and by push.
  • Every attempt logged — duplicate check-ins are blocked, and repeated wrong-face attempts alert admins.

The register

The class teacher marks the register in a few taps.

In JSS 2A, Mr Bello, the class teacher, marks the register on his phone: present, absent or late, then Save.

  • Class register — on the web or on the phone.
  • One attendance record — gate check-ins, device clock-ins and class registers all land in attendance.
  • Absences reach home — parents of an absent child are alerted, and get a daily absence summary.

9:00am

The classroom

A quick test, sat on screen and marked on submit.

JSS 2A sits a twenty-question Basic Science test on CBT. Each paper is marked automatically when it is submitted, and the subject teacher watches the class’s progress as they work.

  • Question bank — single choice, multiple choice, true/false, fill-in-the-blank and images.
  • Live monitoring — lock or unlock a student, force-submit, or send an announcement.
  • Offline CBT add-on — the test runs on the school’s own network when the internet is down.

The tuck shop

Break time: Pocket Moni pays, and the limit holds.

Kayode buys a meat pie and a zobo, and the sale comes off his Pocket Moni. A minute later Zainab tries to spend past her daily limit, and the till blocks it.

  • Spending limits — daily, weekly and monthly, set by the school.
  • Stock — every sale takes the items off the stock list.

3:50pm

The school bus

Off the bus: a tap of the card, and a parent is told.

At each stop on the Surulere route, the bus attendant taps each child’s NFC card on the SchooWare app as they get off. The school has transport alerts turned on, so each parent hears about it.

  • NFC cards — tapped on the normal SchooWare app; a card reader or a tick on the web works too.
  • Parent alerts — in the app and by push, for each leg, when the school turns them on.

Home

After dinner: what he bought, and who missed school.

Kayode’s mum opens the SchooWare app. Pocket Moni shows what he bought today, item by item, and the daily absence summary says his little sister Amina was absent.

What this means

Every stop writes to the same school record, so what the gate, the register, the tuck shop and the bus recorded reaches a parent’s phone by evening.
